Movies are expected to take on a whole new dimension in the future. Facebook and YouTube both now support 360˚ video where the user can use their mouse to look around, however, the full potential and immersive nature doesn’t become apparent until the viewer wears a headset and headphones. When viewed using a VR ‘Goggles’ this emerging type of filmmaking is truly immersive and new technologies are being developed that will allow viewers not only to look around but to actually move within the environment – a truly Virtual Reality experience.
We will look at the emerging hardware and IT considerations for high end devices and the standalone solutions due be released in 2016.
Richard is an award winning producer of short films and has also worked as a feature film producer. Always interested in technology and the moving image, he trained as a news producer, then quickly moved into online digital video. Working as as an independent digital producer from 1998 he was a founder of independent film distribution project ‘ChargePlay’ and video chat website WeRehearse.com amongst others. Working as an actor he has starred in a range of mediums from leads in international feature films, a regular in Hollyoaks, popular TV including the IT Crowd through to multimedia and commercials.
He now regularly works with O2 as a technology presenter and is a member of BAFTA and British Actors Equity. In his spare time he enjoys stage combat and mediaeval sword-fighting. Richard currently works as a VR director devising ways of bringing together live action and rendered elements for the most immersive VR experience. Owl VR is a production house producing high quality 360? experiences, ‘New Reality’ exhibited in Vegas in January 2016 and was awarded runner in best live action VR film and headlined at VRUKfest in February 2016 as one of the first immersive film dramas.
